Barnsley Museums Access and Inclusion vision
Everyone deserves equal access to museums and culture. For us, inclusion means physical, cultural, social, financial, intellectual, psychological, attitudinal and emotional access – we welcome people of all backgrounds, ages, interests and needs.
We believe:
- In making you feel welcome
- In being relevant and interesting
- In caring about you
- In being a safe place
- That everyone can learn new things
- In fun and wellbeing
We want to:
- Share and celebrate your stories and memories of Barnsley
- Be welcoming to all, including and involving everyone
- Listen to our visitors, and be willing to change
We are committed to making positive change and removing barriers, giving you the chance to enjoy our museums and all they have to offer. We want our museums, events, outdoor spaces and marketing to be as accessible as possible.
Barnsley Museums recognises the social model of disability: that people are disabled by barriers in society. We know that barriers currently exist at our sites and want to change that, placing your needs at the centre of our work. We know this will take time, and that we are not aware of all the barriers which may exist. We will constantly review our access work, and welcome feedback from you about how we can improve.
Barnsley Museums does not tolerate discrimination or intolerance in any form towards any visitor, member of staff, or volunteer. We ask you to be kind to other people, and remember that not all disabilities or health conditions are visible.
