Two exciting artwork projects are taking shape to enhance and celebrate the landscape of Goldthorpe and the Dearne.

An open call has been launched for artists to create mural artwork for the Horse and Groom Square, as part of the Goldthorpe Town Deal.

The new artwork will celebrate the rich heritage and culture of the area and reflect both its past and future.

The call for artists is a joint effort with Beam, a cultural development organization.

Artists can now submit expressions of interest. They are encouraged to highlight their creative vision and community engagement skills.

How to apply

Artists interested in the mural commission can download the brief from the Beam website. They should present portfolios showcasing their public and community art.

A question and answer session for interested artists will be held over Zoom on Friday 8 November, from 1pm to 2pm.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 9am on Monday 18 November.

More information

This project is one of two artist commissions within the Towns Fund programme.

The other is a celebratory artwork at the new access roundabout on the A635 Dearne Valley Parkway.

An artist for the roundabout will be appointed later in the year.

These initiatives aim to honour the past while contributing to a vibrant future for Goldthorpe.

The Goldthorpe Town Deal seeks to rejuvenate Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe, and Bolton upon Dearne with an investment of £23.1 million from the UK Government’s Towns Fund.

A package of projects is already underway, creating more opportunities for people living in the area.

More information about the Towns Fund can be found on the Towns Fund webpage.
