Get into the festive spirit at Barnsley Museums

Make special memories this Christmas at Barnsley Museums, with an exciting variety of events over the festive period.

From Saturday, 30 November, until Tuesday, 24 December, visitors can meet Santa, shop for a special gift, or even listen to seasonal stories.

Over at Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens, families can get involved in the 12 Days of Christmas Trail, where children will be tasked with finding 12 objects hidden around the hall.

From Saturday, 7 December, until Sunday, 8 December, visitors can learn all about the story of A Christmas Carol and meet the miserable Ebenezer Scrooge.

Throughout the month, children can listen to festive stories, play with Victorian toys, and meet Santa to share their wish list and receive a special gift.

Moving to Experience Barnsley, families can bring any pre-loved toys and swap them for a lovely gift.

Over at The Cooper Gallery, visitors can explore Sam Sherborne’s collection of steel sculptures upstairs in the Sadler Room.

At Elsecar Heritage Centre, visitors can have fun-filled days out at two festive markets, where there will be a variety of sweet treats, stunning jewellery, and seasonal delights on display.

The venue will also be open for an Elsecar After Hours event, with various family activities, festive stalls, and live music.

From Monday, 2 December, families can have some festive fun by finding all the hidden Christmas toys to be entered into a prize draw.

For a beautiful winter walk, visitors can explore the stunning country park at Worsbrough Mill, home to various natural habitats and wildlife.

Councillor Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “With Christmas being right around the corner, we have got an action-packed programme of activities at Barnsley Museums. Whether you’re listening to festive tales, sharing your wish list with Santa, or looking for that special gift for a loved one.
