Initiative in Barnsley aimed at supporting local creatives

All creative practitioners based in Barnsley can participate in the 'Mapping Barnsley' survey.

It's an initiative aimed at charting the creative landscape of the borough, enabling people to make connections and offer access to unique opportunities.

It is open to everyone in the sector, whether it be an artist, a professional in the arts industry, or someone with a creative practice. All contributions are invaluable in helping to bring together the scope and diversity of Barnsley's creative community. 

As part of the project, there will be a special event to support ‘Mapping Barnsley. The Barnsley Socials, will take place on Thursday, 30 November at the Barnsley Civic, from 6-7:30 pm. The event will feature a guest artist sharing their story and experiences, followed by an open forum, networking, and an opportunity to fill out the survey in person. Everyone is welcome to attend, and no booking is required.

Councillor Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “We have so much creative talent in Barnsley, and projects like this are an invaluable way to gain a greater understanding of the sector and allow us to support creative practitioners. It doesn’t matter what stage in your career you're at or how you work within the culture sector, your input is vital. We understand how important support to local creatives is and through the Cultural Development Fund, which Barnsley Museums is leading, there are further ways in which we will be supporting artists, including commissioning, professional development, and networking.”
