Spring into Action at Barnsley Museums
It’s set to be a fantastic spring bank break at Barnsley Museums, with an amazing range of free family activities taking place over the half-term week.
From Saturday, 25 May, until Sunday, 2 June, families can get artistic and active across the museum's five free heritage attractions.
At Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens younger visitors will be tasked with finding Rowland Rook and all his feathered friends in a free indoor trail in the hall. There will also be the opportunity to dress up and take to the stage in a specially constructed mini theatre for ‘Costume Capers’, accompanying the new temporary exhibition ‘Costumes from the Classics’.
In the Town Centre, there will be a creative, hands-on activity, Animal Alphabet, in The Cooper Gallery on Wednesday, 29 May, from 10am until 12pm and from 1pm until 3pm, where people will be inspired by Brian Wildsmith and create their own mini masterpieces. Just over the road at Experience Barnsley Museum, children will work as a team to create a cool concertina book in an art workshop on Friday, 31 May, from 10am to 12pm and from 1pm until 3pm.
For fun for all the family, head over to Elsecar Heritage Centre to find all the awesome inventions and cool constructions in the Marvellous Machines Trail from Saturday, 25 May, until Sunday, 2 June.
At Worsbrough Mill and Country Park, young visitors will experience the beauty of nature and take part in a free trail to find all the leaf markers and special species in the trees in a week-long activity.
For visitors wanting to explore the great outdoors, sensory trails at Worsbrough Mill Country Park and Cannon Hall Parklands will be available throughout the May half-term break during opening hours.
Councillor Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “Barnsley Museums will be the place to be for families during the May spring bank break.
