Wombwell Townscape
About the design
I began by researching the town, exploring its rich history in the archives and later immersing myself in the town itself. I connected with local residents who introduced me to various sports, mental health, and social groups, as well as prominent community members.
Their shared stories provided me with a vivid sense of the town's journey, from the 1800s to the present day in 2024. Using these stories as inspiration, I designed a creative workshop that placed people at the heart of the final townscape design. The artwork produced during these sessions became an integral part of the project.
Elements from the workshops were incorporated into the final townscape, with the shapes from these collaborative efforts prominently featured in the sky section of the design.

How to use the townscape
Can you find these scenes in the townscape?

Wombwell Library: This historic building serves as a hub for various community groups and preserves the stories of the town's history over the years.
The George Pub: The George pub was chosen as it felt like an important third space in Wombwell. The little George as it's referred to offers a real multi-generational community, an art exhibition and events throughout the year.
Wombwell Woods: A beautiful open space, perfect for catching lots of different wildlife.
