Underground considerations

  • The site you select and the type of project you are planning may mean you need to check for Underground Statutory Services. These include drainage and sewage pipes, water pipes, electricity, gas, cable TV and Broadband, traffic and rail signals.
  • You must ensure that anyone digging on the site has appropriate insurance and Health and Safety policies.
  • The Council will have a list of local providers who must be contacted directly to ensure that there will be no interference with underground services.
  • In addition some services must be informed in advance of the installation dates
  • It is best to undertake these checks before a planning application is submitted to avoid delays in the timeline should underground issues be identified during/ post planning.
  • Be aware that here is also the potential that services are installed following the checks being undertaken therefore it is always wise for the appointed contractor to check with a CAT scanner before digging.
