Principal Townscapes
In 2024 Storying Barnsley commissioned South Yorkshire-based artists with experience of community engagement to co-create the designs for digital ‘townscapes’, that would give a flavour of Barnsley's Principal Towns.
Following on from the 2023 pilot ‘townscape’ project for the Principal Town of Goldthorpe, we put out an open call seeking artists/designers to match with the remaining five towns. The selected artists were given the directive to work with community members to share stories, identify what residents would like to see on their townscape, and actually have a hand in the design itself through creative workshops.
These digital ‘townscapes’ offer the opportunity for visitors to experience different areas of Barnsley virtually; exploring images and interacting with hotspots/sections to view artworks and information.

Cudworth
